On Trend Tuesday: Olivia Palermo

Via TheVogueDiaries.com

I have something to admit. One of my main reasons to watch The City before it was cancelled was not Whitney. Although she was always the nicest girls on the show, the main reason I tuned in every week was because I am obsessed with Olivia Palermo's style. Mean girl or not, the girl can dress. Not just up but casual as well. She has an uncanny ability to throw things together and make them look ah-mazing. Her eye for accessories was even one of the main reasons Joe seemed to keep her on at the magazine. Since we're going into Summer we figured that right now light and easy is the best way to go. That's why when we came across the look from Olivia we just had to recreate it.

Harem pants can be a little harder to pull off but I think that if you keep the outfit simple it makes them more wearable. Olivia isn't exactly wearing harem pants but I wanted to give the look a more trendy and fun twist.

Must Read Monday: Clarity by Kim Harrington

After being kinda bummed about Jenny Han's Summer series ending (review here) I was in the mood for a thriller/who-dunnit type of book. I browsed Amazon and I came across Clarity by Kim Harrington. Now before I get on to the review I have to say that just browsing for books I realized that having a Kindle is mar-vah-lous dah-ling! I never realized how many indie authors are just publishing online and not printing their books because it is so cost effective.
It makes sense in so many ways I mean it saves a tree and a it saves a buck. I can't even begin to tell you how much I have saved by downloading instead of buying a book. While I still love going to the bookstore and just browsing, coffee in hand, sometimes I forget all of the authors that I can miss by not straying from my typical aisles. So be prepared for some reviews of lesser known authors (at least for me) in the upcoming weeks. Best thing is you don't even need a Kindle to buy books online for .99 cents! Just download the reader to your computer and you can read on your computer. Ok now on to Clarity.

What It's About:
Clarity or Clare is a girl with the ability to see things. She's not psychic by any means but she can see into people and discover things. She lives with her brother and mom who both have extra sensory "powers."
She is ostracized at school and considered a freak because of this and because her family has a pseudo-psychic business.
After a girl turns up dead in her town, her ex-boyfriend, reluctantly asks for her help. She agrees because her brother has become the prime suspect. Aside from trying to keep her brother out of jail she also has to put up with the lead police officers's son who absolutely despises psychics.

Why You Should Read It:
I know that the premise of the book is a little out there but believe me, as hair-brained as the summary may seem the book is actually pretty cool. It really keeps you guessing the whole way through and the romance, although included in the book, does not over power the main plot of the story. Kim Harrington has done a great job for her first novel and I can't wait for the sequel to this book to come out.
Oh yes be warned, while the plot of this book does come to a conclusion, the author most definitely ends it on a cliffhanger. I love books like this! Books where everything makes sense at the end and you realize the clues were always there for you to figure it out.

Three Way Thursday: The Faux Leather Vest

As you may know we at Windsor LOVE animals (just look at our Daily Wrinkle). It should come as no surprise then that even our clothing is animal friendly. This vest is a faux leather one and it happens to also be this week's must buy item.

Today we want to show you that you don't have to be biker chick to rock the vest. This first look is a little more girlie and fun. We mixed a leopard print and a sun hat along with a few well placed accessories for a look that screams brunch.

The next look is a more polished look that is perfect for the office. Who says you can't do biker chic from 9-5?
The last look is perfect for date night. It has a soft floral print skirt which softens the tough vest.

Inspiration Wednesday: Putting On the Pink Glitz

Image courtesy of 100 Layer Cake

Today's inspiration comes from one of our favorite wedding blogs, 100 Layer Cake. We love the gold and coral/pink combination with the dash of black thrown in. The look is so exceptionally sweet that we couldn't help but try to recreate the color palette with some of our items.

The colors are primarily shades of pink but the small mix of sparkly gold adds the perfect blend of whimsy and glitz. Our outfit is centered around this light and flowy dress and we added the specks of gold sparkles through our accessories.

Do you think the outfit reflects the amazing picture from 100 Layer Cake?

On a side note, make sure to check the blog out for some awesome wedding tips!

On Trend Tuesday: Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere

Image Courtesy of Cupcakes and Cashmere

Emily has been one of our must read bloggers for quite some time. To say that we are obsessed with her posts is putting it mildly. Her blog, Cupcakes and Cashmere combines the perfect amount of fashion and yummy treats. She really makes everything she does seem effortless and beyond easy. She has gotten me to try cooking and that is big for me, the girl who has literally burned Jell-O. I love how she puts things together and the fact that she takes risks with clothes and color. Make sure to head on over to her blog for more fabulous looks!
Today we did a look for less of one of her recent looks. She did the impossible and made a neon skirt seem absolutely effortless.

Must Read Monday: We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han

Well girls we've come to the last book in the Summer series by Jenny Han....

What It's About:

We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han is the last book in the series. It is the culmination of a series of Summers that Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah have spent growing up. In this last book, we follow Belly as she finally decides on which Fisher boy she's going to end up with. In the second book, a relationship starts with Jeremiah and we actually get to hear from his point of view. In this third book we finally get to hear from Conrad. That in itself makes the book a must buy in my eyes. To finally be able to hear what is going through his head is incredible and you feel bad for Conrad in spite of his previous actions.
In this third book there is a lot of heartbreak because of the actions of both boys so be wary, you will need Kleenex to read this book.

Why You Should Read It:

I can't state how lovely these books are (read my previews book reviews here and here). There aren't many words to describe how beautiful I think this story is and how much I sincerely encourage all of you to pick up these books. The set really is a must read. It's not just a Summer read anymore. I know that I have described them as a quintessential Summer read but to be honest the story developed into much more than I expected it to. I really did love these books and I think that the reason for this is because it is a story about growing up and becoming the person you are meant to be. I think that the story worked out in the best way, at least in my opinion. The journey that the characters undergo is a necessity in order to fully appreciate each other. I loved finally getting to understand all the characters completely. This last book was bittersweet for me because as much as I wanted to see who ended up with who, I really didn't want the story to end. Jenny Han you have created such a wonderful story and I don't know what compliment I can give you that can express how much your books meant but please know that I will be re-reading these books through out my life because they really do speak to me as I'm sure they have spoken to so many other girls.
So much growing up happens during Summer in spite of the fact that it seems like the shortest season in my eyes. I blame my awesome school for having classes 9 months out of the year. For the longest time I really did think there were only two seasons; school season and Summer. I know silly but I'm in California and I was young.
This quote is perfect because I think it applies to us all:

"There are moments in every girls life that are bigger than we know at the time. when you look back, you say that was one of those life-changing fork in the road moments and I didn't see it coming and then there are the moments that you know are big that whatever you do next there will be an impact. Your life could go one of two directions, DO or DIE."

Pick up this story and I guarantee that you will be reminded of your Summers, your friends, your own fork in the road moment and your first loves regardless of how old you are. For now I leave you with one of my favorite summer songs. One that that really exemplifies the feeling I get when I think of these books.

Tell me what you think of these books and let me know if there are any books I should be picking up to review next.

Three Way Thursday: The Floral Print Dress

Dress $46.90

It seem's that April showers brought May showers for a little while in California. Finally the sun seems to be making its appearance and we can say that the flowers are coming! We love flowers and think that nothing screams Summer quite like a floral print dress. This week we wanted to show you that there are so many fun and different ways to wear a floral print dress. We love the looks put together because they mix and match different textures and prints.

The first look is a simple and fun look for brunch. The hat just tops off the whole look while also protecting you from the sun.
The second look is a great way to wear a "daytime" dress at night. We mixed floral and leopard prints and added a little leather jacket and voila, perfect outfit for date night.

The last look is a good option if you're going from day to night. It's still trendy enough for a casual date without being overdone. Don't you just love the feather earrings?!

What do you think? Will you try these looks? If you do show us on Facebook! If you're still looking for a graduation dress outfit check out last week's post for some inspiration.

Inspiration Wednesday: Dreaming of Maldives

It's May and of course we have Summer on the brain. I came across this image on Pinterest and I could literally see myself on that beach with my floppy hat, sunglasses and book. I am absolutely in love with this image of Maldives. That's why it's no surprise that this place serves as our inspiration for our blue look today.

I love how all of the various shades of blue slowly fade into green but my favorite thing about this image is that there comes a point where you can't see where the sea ends and the sky begins.
Now that you've seen what's on our minds, tell me where you're dreaming of going this Summer?
Do you think that our outfit brings a little Maldives into our lives?

Must Read Monday: It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han

What can I say about this book series that can express how much I love it? Maybe I am letting my Summer eyes* dictate the way I see things but to be honest this series is just that good.
I'm going to go off on a tangent and explain why I always seem to love the books I review here. I will always try my best to review books that I loved. While I have come across some doozies that I would have preferred to live without, there is no point in my reviewing a book, and saying how bad it is and how much you shouldn't read it. Someone spent alot of their time and effort writing that book and who am I to downplay their work? Maybe it wasn't my cup of tea but it may be someone else's. If there's a book you want to read out there, don't wait for someone to tell you that you should, just do it. The point of Must Read Monday is to, hopefully, bring a book you may not be aware to your attention.
Now I am hoping that you took my advice and got all 3 books at the same time. If you didn't, well I'm sure you kicked yourself  in the bum enough for me to restrain myself and not tell you I told you so....

Silly! I told you so! (Sorry couldn't help myself, my inner 5 year old takes over sometimes and well, what can you do?)

Ok now on to the book....

What It's About:
It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han is the sequel to The Summer I Turned Pretty which I reviewed last week. As always, I'll do my best to not give away any spoilers but if I do I am really sorry. You probably already know that Susannah has cancer and she isn't doing well at all. In this book she relapses and Conrad does not deal well with it at all. Jeremiah ends up calling Belly and telling her that Conrad has gone missing and he needs her help finding him. In spite of the way things were left with her and Conrad, Belly agrees to help and so begins another Summer at Cousins beach with the two most important boys in her life.
This book is mainly about letting go and acceptance.

Why You Should Read It:
First, let me say that this book isn't a lighthearted read. Yes, this book is still about love but this book doesn't just talk about the boyfriend/girlfriend type of love, it talks about love and relationships in general. It's about the love of friends and family. It is also about heartbreaking loss.
While you may think that Belly agrees to help Jeremiah find Conrad because she loves him, she really does it because of the love she has for both the boys and Susannah. I don't mean love as in I love you, let's get married love. I'm talking about I love you because you have been my friend all of my life and I want you to be ok type of love. It is this love that I think makes this book relateable to everyone. While Summer love is pretty much a staple for some, the love of friends and family is a staple for everyone; whether they're aware of it or not.
The thing I loved most about this book was the fact that I really could understand where Belly was coming from. I really would hate to find myself in that situation between two boys she loves and doesn't want to hurt.

Next week I'll be reviewing the last book, We'll Always Have Summer. I can tell already that I'm going to be a big ball of tears. Jenny Han has a way of doing that to me. This only happens to me with the

Don't forget to comment and tell me your thoughts. I'd love to hear what you have to say.

Three Way Thursday (Although it's Friday): The White Dress

Dress $26.90
Goodness gracious! Blogger is finally up! Time to do the happy dance with us. Ok now that the random burst of happiness has been had it's time to put up our Three Way Thursday post. Blogger was not cooperating and we were so bummed because these outfits are so cool! This week we're focusing on the white dress. There are so many graduations coming up and the white dress seems like the must have item for those itchy polyester contraptions we have to wear. While we think the LWD (little white dress) is definitely an item worth having in our closet, it isn't always everyone's must have item. We like to think of the LWD as a blank canvas so we went a little crazy and even threw a skirt in the mix to show the possibilities.

The first look is perfect for under the grad gown. The accessories and jacket can be removed and added as needed when putting on the cap and gown but they aren't too fussy. The fun thing about this outfit is that you are getting a preview of one of our upcoming scarves. Here's a suggestion for substitute scarf in the meantime.

The second outfit is perfect for going out to celebrate that night with your friends. It's so simple to turn this dress from a daytime outfit to a nigh time outfit by adding just the right amount of accessories in the go to night time color: black.
Oh but you say you have a dinner with your family first and need to dress it down a little. Well this may just be one of our fav looks. Mostly because it shows you how creative you can be. Our stylist/buyer was a genius and made the dress look totally different by adding a cute little skirt. When she did this she opened up our eyes to the endless possibilities in our closet!
What do you think of these outfits? Does it make you want to try the LWD? Well in case you do we're giving you 20% off site wide this weekend only (5/14-5/15) with code GRAD2011.

Inspiration Wednesday: May Flowers

via pinterest.com
Today's Inspiration Wednesday post comes courtesy of my favorite season; Spring. Is there anything lovelier than then first Spring flowers? I'm pretty sure there aren't. Flowers have a special place in our Windsor hearts thanks to our dearly loved founder Maurice. Due to this it should come as no surprise that flowers are always a big source of inspiration for us, even our outfits can sometimes have a little flora in them.
Our color palette today has a pastel feel to it but it since it's a little darker it is wearable by most everyone. The weather is alot nicer but it is definitely starting to heat up so long and heavy jeans are out of the question. We like to be outside and enjoy this wonderful weather so we kept everything simple and wearable. We added few little beauty necessities and now we're set for a fun day in the sun!
What do you think about our flora inspired outfit? Did we hit or miss the mark?

On Trend Tuesday: Get The Look For Less-Emma Roberts

Via JustJared.com
Emma Roberts is having quite a year. She has come out in a few movies this year and she is expected to release another few in the coming moments. One of the awesome things about movies, you know besides the movies themselves, are the red carpets. They are like mini fashion runways. The looks are more toned down than an award show but the celebs still dress to impress.
Emma walked the red carpet at the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere in an LBD and we loved the simplicity of it. Sometimes, when it comes to fashion, less is more. She looks so fresh and comfortable without losing any style that we decided to recreate the look for under $100!
What do you think of our cheap and chic Emma Robert's look? Do you think this is a look you want to try out?

Must Read Monday: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han

I wanted to wait to review this series until the last book came out. I am extremely impatient. I hate having to wait so long between  books, movies, and shows. Seriously, you should have seen me at the season finale of Pretty Little Liars. So I waited until this third book was out so that you  could go and get out all 3 books in the series. Trust me you'll want to.

What It's About:
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han is the quintessential summer read. It tells the story of Isabel or Belly and the people that are a part of the life she has during the Summer. Every Summer she, along with her mom and brother head out to the beach to stay with her mom's best friend and her son's, Conrad and Jeremiah. As kids Belly just wanted to be included in the boy's things but as she starts to grow up her feelings start to change and she beings to realize that she has developed a crush on Conrad, the eldest of the boys.
This book is about "firsts" which I think is something we can all relate too. It talks about the first crush, the first kiss, the first heartbreak.
Aside from that, this book is just about life. It deals with love and loss and it does it in such a sweet way. It really is a feel good book, in spite of the heartbreak.

Why You Should Read It:
The question is why shouldn't you? This book is one of the books I think I will be pulling out every Summer. I know it's what alot of people consider "chick lit" but I don't care. I realized that as I was reading it I had a huge grin on my face. To me that speaks more than any review. It was a story that drew me in and really made me forget everything around me. That's what makes a book great in my opinion. Ii think the reason that this book brought a smile to my face is because I could remember the same feelings Belly had. I think we all remember our first crush and our first exceptional Summer.
Summer, above all seasons, is the time we experience the most personal growth. Yes physically we change but emotionally we become the people we will turn out to be. I really recommended you getting this book. If you've already read it, read it again for some good memories. Next week I'll be reviewing the second book so feel free to grab it and let me know your thoughts.
Have you read this book? Let me know what you think about it and if you liked it as much as I did?

Three Way Thursday: The Maxi Skirt

This season the skirt to have in your closet is the maxi skirt. To me this is the most versatile skirt you can get. If only because the styling options are infinitesimal. How many items can be 2 things wrapped in one?
The maxi skirt can be overwhelming on a person with a smaller frame if over styled. Fortunately our buyers are pros in style so they've done the work for you.

The first look is the most relaxed of the looks. We kept it very flowy and created a contrast between the lace cami and print on the skirt. This look is perfect for a day out in the sun.
Lace Top//Tank//Watch//Shoes//Hat

If you need to take your look up a notch for a date then turn the skirt into a dress! How awesome is that! Add a few well placed accessories and you have a look ready for date night without looking too overdone.

The last look is a happy medium between date night and casual comfort. This look is perfect for a beach date or shopping at the flea market. Its relaxed and practical. The top will let you stay cool and the (sneak peak!) bag will definitely come in handy during the day.

So now that you've seen our three looks do you think you'll be trying out the maxi skirt trend?

Inspiration Wednesday: Iconic Brunettes

In today's post we're straying a little bit from our Inspiration Wednesday format. You can thank Audrey Hepburn for that. Today Audrey would have been 82. She was a beautiful woman, a great actress and was the epitome of class. Yes, she was fashionable and yes she was a renowned actress. However, these aren't the things that make her an iconic legend in our eyes. To be perfectly honest with you, the thing that stands out above everything else is the wonderful human being that she was. Much of her later life was dedicated to helping children in third world countries through UNICEF. Audrey knew that the most valuable things in this world aren't money, clothes, or fame. She valued people above everything else. For this we admire her.

Lately we've come across and worked with a few exceptional girls that have a little Audrey in them. What we mean by this is that they are girls who have outer beauty but it is their inner beauty that blows our mind. They are girls who don't take a day for granted and enjoy life as it comes. They handle so many things with such poise its astounding. While it would be very easy for these girls to sit back and focus just on themselves; they don't in fact they are girls who take advantage of what they have to help others. One such girl is Ingrid or MissGlamorazzi.

Ingrid has a YouTube channel that is based around beauty. The thing is that the beauty videos that she does don't just focus on outer beauty. She exemplifies what Audrey stood for which is inner beauty. This girl has worked hard and earned everything she has. Nothing has been handed to her. It would be very easy to sit back and enjoy the ride but Ingrid has taken her voice and used it to help others. How many girls do you know who take time and their own money to create a giveaway in order to raise awareness on the exploitation of children?
Ingrid stands by the fact that she is just a normal and average girl but we beg to differ. We see the Audrey-ness peeking through and no amount of make-up can hide that. If you doubt us take a look at the best video she has ever done. If there were ever doubts about the character of this girl, this video destroys them.

For now we leave you with Audrey's very famous quote:
We hope it inspires you as much as it does us. Do you know any people that have a little Audrey in them? Do you have a little Audrey in you?

On Trend Tuesday: Retro Prom

We're going to be starting something fun on the blog. We're taking a trip back in time to see prom and homecoming looks throughout the years. First up we have a our very brave and totally fab Marketing Director, Adriana. She swears that she looks so much older now than in this pic, sorry to say but she's wrong. Yep totally wrong. Pardon the redundancy but how many times can you tell your boss that they're wrong and live to tell the tale? Not many, so I had to enjoy pointing this out as much as I could.

To look at her now not much has changed. Aside from the fact that she is now the proud mom of a two year old little man and twin baby prom girl's in the making. Given her position and personality, we can't imagine her picking any other color besides red. It's definitely one of our most popular colors when it comes to dresses. It's a color that's meant to be worn by those that want to stand out. Want an updated version of Adriana's look? Gotcha covered, corsage not included.
If you decide to wear this color make sure to keep your accessories simple like Adriana did.
You have to make sure to let the color be the main event. If you really want to take your look to the next level don't forget the red lips.
What color did you wear to prom? Would you have chosen that color today?
