Inspiration Wednesday: Do You Remember Daria?

When I was in 8th grade the I was obsessed with Daria! I loved her sarcastic comebacks and the fact that she spoke her mind. I was so beyond disappointed when the show stopped airing and I wish they would bring it back but alas all I can do is have a Daria inspired outfit to tide me over until they start having the episodes on Netflix.

Daria wore dark colors that are perfect for Fall don't you think?

On Trend Tuesday: Nina Dobrev Rocks the Airport

via JustJared.com
Is anyone getting as excited as we are about The Vampire Diaries coming back?!? Ah!! Can't wait! I know this strays from the books but is anyone else Team like I am? No offense to Stefan but Damon and Elena soooo need to get together.

Now that I've gone totally and completely off subject let's get me back on track. One of the girls in the office is heading out on vacation and that got us thinking of what one should wear at the airport to look cute and put together but to also be comfortable. L.A is going through a heatwave at the moment so when I came across this look I thought it was perfect for flying. Bonus: Ian Somerhalder is in the pic ;)

Must Read Monday: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

via amazon

What It's About:
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White is the story of Evie. A sixteen year old girl who happens to work for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. This agency tracks down paranormal entities and contains them. They don't kill paranormals at all. Evie is a unique girl because she can see past "glamours" of the paranormals and identify them. She thinks that she is a normal girl, you know aside from the fact that she can see behind glamours, her bff is a mermaid, her ex is a tricky faerie and she's falling for a shapeshifter that is completely new to the paranormal world. It is with the assistance of all them that she is going to try and figure out who is going around killing paranormals and who the heck she is and where she comes from because if there is one thing Evie isn't it's normal.

Why Should Read It:
It's funny!! I literally found myself laughing at so many parts in the book. Evie is silly and a girly girl but she can kick butt with the best of them. Helpless she is not. The author did a wonderful job of helping the reader picture what's going on. I have to admit that I picked this e-book up (I have a Kindle) thanks to Mr. Belding (yep Saved by the Bell Mr.Belding). He tweeted about it being made into a movie, so me being the ever curious person that I am, Googled it. The summary had the words Buffy the Vampire Slayer in it so of course I had to get it. I am a HUGE Buffy fan (the show not so much the movie) so anything that compares itself to it makes me want to judge it...harshly.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the humor in the story and the summary was absolutely dead on. The humor is definitely reminiscent of early Buffy episodes. Evie has great comebacks and she is a girly girl like Buffy. She's a girl trying to make it in the tough, tough world of the undead while at the same time still trying to keep herself sane, maintain friendships and deal with her new crush on a guy who can look like anyone he wants. Oh yeah, did I mention she also has to deal with a crazy, stalker faerie ex-boyfriend?
Yep, I definitely recommend this. It's a light read and it'll definitely entertain you. Pick it up to read in between math and english homework when you want to decompress and laugh alot.

Any books you want me to read next? Have you read this book?

Fab Fit Friday: Grow A Healthy Lifestyle

Dress

Staying healthy means eating healthy and sometimes eating healthy can get a little too expensive. I found myself constantly buying tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, and other vegetables for my salads. I decided to grow my own vegetables in my backyard. I bought 5 large pots and bought the plants at a garden store. There are tons of online websites that will teach you how to get started with creating your own backyard garden. I have saved so much money this summer and the best part of having a backyard garden is that the vegetables are fresh and you know exactly where they are coming from and what chemicals they contain.

Three Way Thursday: The Leopard Pants

Leopard Pants: $32.90

I know when you first hear the words "sheer leopard pants" you probably cringe at the thought. That's why when I first saw them I knew I had to use them for Three Way Thursday. They really are fun and trendy and above all they are comfortable.

The first look is perfect for a casual Friday at the office. If I would have heard that you are adding a long vest to these pants I would have thought you were crazy but now that I see the finished product I actually like it!

The second look is perfect for lunch with your friends. I love the pop of color the ring gives!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday: Jury Duty Edition

I'm back!!!!!

So as you all probably heard I was in jury duty all of last week and well let's just say that awkward takes on a whole new level when in court. Here's a snippet of a few fun moments I had while serving.

Awkward:

  • Kinda sorta freezing up the courtroom computer.
  • Giving the death face when informed that no open containers are allowed inside the courtroom.
Me: But it's coffee not alcohol! What next you'll tell me no Red Bull is allowed either....                   Court Person:  It's not...                                                                                                                    Me: What?! followed by whimpering....evil glaring begins
  • Forget to eat. Have rumbly tummy in a VERY quiet room. "Oh sorry witness that was my stomach but do go on."
  • Aforementioned rumbly tummy leading to a bout of laughter during a very serious moment in a key witness' testimony
  • Laughter leading to legit glaring and staredown from the defendant's lawyer the entire trial time.
  • Having a minor freakout when the elevator doors took just a tad too long to open. I almost kissed the floor when I got out.
Awesome:
  • Becoming buddies with the cop at the security checkpoint and being waved in. Guess I don't have a mean face after all
  • Starting time was at 10am. Best. Sleep. Ever
  • Having the court day end at 4:30.
  • Coffee Bean being around the corner. Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Blended=heaven.
  • Hourly breaks courtesy of another jurors low blood sugar
  • That image above....Yep the whole time I kept hearing the theme song from Law and Order and expecting the doors to bust open with a surprise witness. What can I say. I have a healthy imagination.

Any jury duty stories you want to share? I'd love to hear any awkwardness you may have gone through :)

Inspiration Wednesday: Hair Today, Fashionable Tomorrow

Have you ever done your hair and picked your outfit afterwards? I know that's crazy talk but we like to live on the edge here in the Windsor offices.

I love the color palette of this hairdo. I know it's not really how most people would wear their hair but the colors are so Fall!

Do you let your hair dictate your outfits too?

What do you think? Did we do a good job recreating the look?

Must Watch Monday: The Help

Let's start this review off by letting you know that I am a big softie. I cry at just about anything so when I warn you to brace yourself for alot of crying please know that I am not someone you want to use as a gauge of how many tears you will shed.

What It's About:
The Help is a movie with our girl crush Emma Stone. It is a movie based on a book by Kathryn Stockett (shocker!) which is pretty popular in its own right. I must admit that I have not read this book just because I have a hard time reading things that are a little sentimental. I know, I know some of the best writing out there deals with hard life issues but I am the girl that cried at Cheaper by the Dozen 2 so its really hard for me to purposefully pick up a book that I know will make me cry.
You know that episode in Friends where Joey gets to the point in Little Women where he figures out that Beth isn't going to make it and he decides to put the book in the freezer? Yep I TOTALLY get him and I am right there with him. There's alot of sadness in life without going out there to find it.
With that said let me go ahead and contradict myself by saying that we have to make it our life's pursuit to learn from other people's experiences to grow as a person. I know that this book is fiction but the basic premise isn't that far off from some of the darkest point in our US history.
The book centers around Skeeter, a recent college graduate who returns home to get some writing experience. While she is trying to make it in the working world her mom is trying to get her married off. When she comes back Skeeter is trying to figure out what happened to her maid Constantine since no one will tell her where she went. The focus of the story is also around two black maids, Aibileen and Minny who are just trying to make ends meet. These ladies have worked their entire lives raising white people's children only to be tossed out and forgotten. The focus of the story is on segregation and the unfairness in which "The Help" lives and the thoughtlessness of their "employers."

Why You Should Watch It:
I can't even begin to tell you all the reasons you should watch it. The main thing is that the message resonates even now. The story itself focuses on race but the message is timeless. We live in a time where it's easier to not get along and treat everyone like a stranger but in the end we're all out wanting to do the best for our family and ourselves. Everyone is fighting a battle in their life and we don't know what someone is going through so before we decide to play judge on someone we should make sure to ask ourselves why the person acts the way they do. The movie has quite a few characters and some you'll love and some you'll hate but whether you love or hate them, let them show you how to be a better person.

I cannot recommend this movie enough. Emma Stone kills it!

Any other movies you're excited about?

Fab Fit Friday:Healthy Fruit Pizza

Trying to stay healthy can be very difficult if your family loves ordering pizza, but here is a trick to make the most out of your families choice!

When your family or friends are done eating save the pizza box! This may sound silly but you can use it for so many things.

I saved the box from my families dinner the other night, and reconstructed it into my very own pizza box. I made a fruit pizza and brought it to a summer barbeque! All my friends loved it!

I  used 1/2 Pillsbury Cookie dough, 2 Mandarin Oranges, 1 Cup Strawberry Halves, 1 Banana, 1 Container Fat Free Whipped Cream.

I cut the pizza into 13 even slices: 176 Calories per slice, 31g Carbohydrates, 7g Protein, 4g Fat

You can also use the reconstructed box for picture storage or other healthy food holders!

Three Way Thursday: Sparkle Dress

Sarahi: Sequin Dress-$199.90
When this dress came into our office I fell in love. To me this is the quintessential sheath dress. I know that the price might seem high but this, in my opinion, beats out the LBD. In the illustrious words of Sydney from The Daybook "I'm a girl. And girls need to sparkle sometimes. So says Girl Law. Look it up." What better way to sparkle than with this little number right?

This challenge was interesting for S and I because they had to manage to make this dress wearable in 3 different ways.

Dress//Shoes//Clutch//Bracelets//Necklaces
The first looks is perfect for homecoming or a wedding. It's chic without being over the top.

Dress//Sweater//Clutch//Shoes//Earrings//Cuff
This second look tones the dress down a bit. I emphasize a bit because it is a sequin dress after all. If you add heels this is a dressier date night option but if you add some flats or cute sandals this could be a totally wearable day look.
Blazer//Dress//Belt//Shoes//Clutch//Earrings
This last look toughens up the dress and makes it appropriate for a dressier dinner without being over the top. I love the contrast of the black and silver in this look

What do you think of these looks? Would you wear any of them? Let me know in the comments below.

p.s. Did you have any doubts I'd get this post up ;)

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Today's Awkard and Awesome post will be veeeeeeeeery short...

Awkward:
*Our normal blogger being called in for jury duty and thus not being able to post as she normally does--you know from a desk and computer.

Awesome:
*Her ability to write this week's posts from her phone. Gotta love technology.

The question is can she manage to post Three Way Thursday today?

Dun, dun, dun...The suspense will be killing us! What do you think? Will she get it done?

Inspiration Wednesday: Did you Caboodle?

via Pinterest
Can you tell that Pinterest has become an obscene addiction for me? Well aside from that it has become my online inspiration board. This week I came across this Caboodle image and I totally remembered wanting one SO bad! I was still too young to wear make-up according to my mom but it didn't keep me from trying to take hers (yep my mom had a Caboodle). Getting into my 20s has been rough on me. No joke, I'm taking it pretty hard and I get alot of grief from some coworkers that shall remain nameless because they insist that I am cuh-razy for thinking that anything in your 20s is old. In my defense, its not that I feel that being in your 20s is old because its so not. I know that. I'm not a total dork. The thing that's been hard is the fact that I have entered adulthood (eeep!) I totally miss those school Summer breaks where I could go on roadtrips and stay up super late and sleep in til noon.

Now that I have ranted a little and gotten that little piece of crazy out into the blogging world I get into my Caboodle outfit.

It has a lot of fun colors but it's such a Summer outfit I can't even stand it, I love it so much! It's just a crazy fun outfit but still wearable. Dontcha think?

On Trend Tuesday: Hilary Duff

via JustJared.com
This week we just had to do a post on the adorbs Hilary Duff. First off lets all say and congratulate her on being preggers together...Congratulations Hil! We know you'll be an awesome mom (and b-t dubs thanks for reminding us that we are getting older!)
Ok, so we're not like ancient or anything but there's something a little weird about Lizzie McGuire becoming a mom. Either way we wish her the best and we know she'll be another stylish mommy we love! We just hope her little kiddo gets a normal name ;)

What do you think? Did we do a good job of recreating Hil's look?

Must Read Monday: Style Yourself by Various Authors

Via Amazon

What It's About:
In one word, style. This book is a compilation of the advice by our favorite bloggers. It breaks down fashion chapter by chapter and it really makes being creative with our clothes do-able. Think of this book as your one stop blogger shop.
Each chapter consists of a basic garment that everyone has in their closet. The book delves into the different types of garments that there are within each category and how to wear them. Not only are the different types of garments displayed, they are also explained. I love the fact that the book is detailed and it doesn't try to dumb down fashion.

Why You Should Buy It:
The bloggers! I think this is one book that you'll be referencing again and again. Not only does it explain in detail all types of garments but it also shows you how to mix things up. The remixes of basic items alone  make this book a must buy. I mean who knew that there were at least different ways to wear a basic button down cardigan-one of which is a scarf! I think this section alone pays for the book. Aside from that how awesome is it that some of the top bloggers are giving you more insight into their lives! I definitely think that this book is such a great investment and you'd be silly to not go out and get it immediately!

If you get this book or have this book let us know what you think in the comments! We'd love to hear about any book recommendations you may have so feel free to suggest any books you think are worthwhile.

Fab Fit Friday: Healthy Yogurt

Protein is very important when focusing on health and fitness, this is why I choose to eat Greek Yogurt. Greek yogurt is low in sugar, carbs and fats.  The first time I tried Greek yogurt I was not sold on it! I needed the protein, so I found ways to eat it and actually enjoy it. Almost every morning I start my day off with a grapefruit and frozen yogurt. I prepare it the night before to make sure it's ready when I wake up.

All you need is Non Fat Greek Yogurt, Sugar Free Jello Mix, and A Stirring Utensil! Here is a video to show you how simple it actually is!

Eating healthy may not always satisfy our taste-buds but if we get creative with it we can create a taste!

Three Way Thursday: The Scalloped Shorts

Scalloped Shorts: $34.90

These shorts are a persona fav of mine. I love that they're not too short and that they have a sheen to them. They border on the "dressier" side but I think that there are so many ways to wear these that you just have to have them in your closet!

The first look is my favorite look of the three. I love that it's casual and you can totally wear it to class.

The second look is perfect for a dressier brunch.

The last look is something you can wear to a semi dressy event or the club.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward:
*"Her boobs look awesome!" Try to make that phrase sound utmost professional.
*Having a model casting call and having to literally look at bodies all day long and check for the randomest things
*Getting to our coffee place and ordering my coffee and then getting my total. I go to pay and he gives me back my change plus extra:
Me: I gave you exact change, what's all this extra money?
Starbucks Guy: Oh!  You did give me exact change didn't you. I haven't had my morning coffee
Me: You work at Starbucks for goodness sake. Can't you put your mouth under a nozzle to wake up?
*Thinking you are some slick girls because you are going to surprise your boss with a birthday party. You head to a meeting which isn't as long as we'd hoped it be so we proceed to stall for an hour by discussing as nauseam various projects we are working on. Boss then runs to the restroom and comes back. We stall for even longer to give the rest of the team more time to set up. Then we take for-ever in the restroom (which is awkward in itself) and then we walk the warehouse only to find that when she went to the restroom she saw the surprise. Party planning fail!

Awesome:
*Birthday parties and cake!
*Our awesome boss's birthday!

*Purple feather dress. Wait til you see it!
*Anh rocking our vest and clutch in 9to5chic.com
via 9to5chic.com

*Kristina showing our printed dress what Switzerland is all about

*Sequins on dresses!
*Exclamations points!

Inspiration Wednesday: Ah the Summer Life...

via Pinterest

I've told you a few times that I am more of a Winter girl than a Summer girl but there is one thing that I absolutely adore about Summer. From the picture I'm sure you can guess it's the fruity drinks--virgin of course ;)

There's nothing quite like an icy fruity drink at the end of the day to make you feel like you're on top of the world. If your outfit happens to be complimented by your drink then all the better. We decided that these colors are perfect for a Summer soiree so we dressed our look up a little more than usual.

On Trend Tuesday: Nina Dobrev Does Casual

via JustJared.com
I must admit that I am a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries. Mostly because I love the story and only slightly because of Ian Somerhalder. One of the things I absolutely love is Elena, or Nina Dobrev's style on the show. She always manages to look edgy and put together without looking over the top. In a show about witches and vampires that is tough to do.
Aside from her style on the show I love seeing her style when she is just out and about and just being casual and hanging out.

Must Read Monday: Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell

Amazon: .99

As promised a while back, I am trying to read books by newer authors to help support and promote them. Self-published authors are putting themselves out there and they need all the help they can get. There are some fantastic authors out there that I cannot believe haven't exploded yet. This week I focus on Tammy Blackwell who wrote Destiny Binds.

What It's About:
As you can tell from the cover the book is about wolves. I know what you are thinking because I thought the same thing, not another wolf book! Enough with the Jacobs of the supernatural world! Let me be the first one to say that I am so glad that I didn't let my first impression of the book detract me from reading it. The book is about Scout Donovan, a girl who has no idea that she lives in a world surrounded by shifters. She's been hopelessly in love with Charlie forever, she's overprotected by her brother and has also developed a crush (while still crushing on Charlie) on the new guy, Alex. Oh and by the way her brother can't stand him. As if those weren't enough complications in life she isn't exactly on the best terms with some of her classmates and she has AP courses to deal with in school.

Why You Should Read It:
Scout is hilarious! Sarcasm is a natural reaction for me sometimes and I literally found myself laughing out loud throughout the entire book because I could totally see myself saying some of the things Scout says--i.e. "I think I broke my butt. Yep I definitely broke my butt". Mind you, this book is technically romance and supernatural drama but you'll still find yourself laughing at Scout's words. I also like that Scout isn't a damsel in distress. She's a take charge girl who's a black belt and can take care of herself. Her little sister is just as good. She might be one of my favorite characters in the book she's that good. I cannot rave enough about this book. I really hope you pick it up. Especially since its under a dollar.
The only complaint I have is that the sequel for the book won't be out until the end of the year. Tammy please hurry because I can't wait to read what happens. You left me on a such a cliffhanger!

If you pick the book up let me know how you like it. Any books I should read next?

Fab Fit Friday: Feed Your Sweet Tooth

Taralynn is wearing our navy romper!

If you go through my blog you will notice I have candy bags in my hand a lot. You may ask how am I living a healthy lifestyle if I'm eating candy all the time?! Well the most important thing about a healthy lifestyle is treating yourself. If you deprive your body of treats you will just want it 100Xmore. Many people think that if they have one bad thing to eat than their diet is completely sabotaged, and that's why you should never use the word diet.  I always say "It's a lifestyle, there's no way to fail when limits don't exist" so don't limit yourself to your favorite things in life.  You can always go for the healthier  choice, instead of having a large bowl of ice scream with chocolate syrup and sugary toppings have a bowl of frozen yogurt with nuts and fruit toppings. Moderation is the key. My favorite treat is chocolate! I always buy the 100 calorie chocolate bars at Dylan's

via

or grab frozen yogurt at Scoops Du Jour in East Hampton. I usually put my favorite outfit on and go walk the square when I go out to treat myself, the extra scoop of frozen yogurt won't matter if I walked it off ;)
