DIY: Statement Sequin Bra

DIY's are always fun! Especially because at the end of the day, you're making something unique that no one else will have the exact replica of. As we were blog surfing, we came across a lovely blog by Harper's Bazzar that showed you how to make your very own statement bra. We of course, thrilled by the idea, decided to feature our very own version of the statement bra. It is the simplest thing you will ever do in your life! And the results will be gratifying.

So first thing's first, here are your necessary materials to create your statement bra:

  • Light weight cotton bra. Any color, style (as long as it's simple) will do!
  • Sequin fabric. Any color, and/or texture as long as you love it.
  • A sewing needle and thread.
  • Pins.
  • Tracing paper and pencil.
  • Scissors.

Step by step:

Preparation: Since we used this lace detail bra. We had to tuck the lace parts so that we can easily trace onto paper.

Lay piece of tracing paper on top of bra and be ready to trace.

Once traced on to paper. Cut the pattern out carefully.

Measure: Once pattern is cut, place on top of bra to make sure it matches with the shape of the bra.

Now you're ready to cut the fabric. To be able to cut the fabric neatly, pin pattern onto the fabric so it stays in place. Cut around pattern.

Et voila! You have a fabric piece ready to be sewn!

Pin your piece of fabric onto the bra so that it stays in place while you sew.

For easy sewing follow this basic hand sewing pattern: one stitch under and one stitch over. Continue this sewing pattern until you go around the cup of the bra.

Ta da! Yay! One is cup is finished. Now to repeat from step 4. Make sure to flip pattern piece to opposite side to have a left side of the bra.

And there you have it, your very own sequin statement bra! You have now officially completed a fashion designer's creation process! ;)
