Lauren's College Confessions

So a few of our favorite girls headed out to high school and college this year and since we already know they give great advice we asked them to give us a little look into their lives in school. First up is Lauren of LoLuFullyLoaded and Love Lauren Elizabeth. Make sure to check out her blog and YouTube for some awesome tips!

Going from a big bad senior to a little freshman again isn't the easiest thing in the world. Senior year was so fun but I could not wait to begin college. The college I attend is in Chicago and my parents live about 30min away. Therefore, this wasn't the biggest transition for me but still exciting and new. Going to school in a big city as opposed to a campus school has it's big differences. I get to walk around the city of Chicago everyday and have all my favorite stores right around me! It's pretty awesome to say the least. However, it also can be tough. I've only been at school for about 3 weeks and have had trouble making friends. At campus schools everyone just goes out together and there's so much to do. In the city it's a little more restricted. I definitely don't regret going to school in Chicago I just have to branch out a little! Living in a dorm is also very new to me. I always had my own comfortably big room, bathroom, and closet all to myself. I am very neat and organized as well. Moving into a apartment style dorm with four other girls has been a wake up call to say the least. It's a totally fun experience and I'm glad I did it, but I don't think I could do this my whole life! Decorating my part of the room was super fun though. Going to stores like Target where everything is affordable made decorating so easy. I definitely gave my place some of my own personal style. But the best part so far about college is wearing all my cute clothes! I went to a private school and always had to wear a uniform. Now I'm free to express myself through my clothing everyday! It's so fun choosing different looks for each day. I definitely recommend bringing clothing that is comfortable but still cute. Don't get me wrong, I love sweat pants and hoodies. But when it comes to walking around in the city, looking stylish is just so much more fun! While homework is getting tough and making friends is challenging, college is such a great experience. If you're in college what questions do you have about getting settled in?

Fab Fit Friday: Baked Chocolate Chip Donuts

How many times do you walk into a meeting and donuts are sitting in front of you screaming your name?
Too many times for me. I learned my lesson after the 10th time of failing the temptation , so I started making
my own to bring. The usual recipe I make usually has egg whites and yogurt but since this is my vegan month
I had to make some changes. I promise it taste just as great and actually I prefer this one!

 Ingredients:
  • 2 Tbsp Vegan Chocolate Chips
  • 3 Tbsp Vegan Chocolate Chips For Top
  • 1/2 Tbsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Cup Whole Grain Oats
  • 1/4 Cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1 Packet Truvia
  • 1 Small Banana
  • 3 Tbsp Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Ground Flax
  • 1 Tbsp Almond Flour
  • Sprinkles
Add all ingredients (besides 3 Tbsp of Chips)  to a bowl and mix well. The textures should be very
similar to cooked oatmeal.

I don't have a donut pan so I use my whoopie pie pan. Make sure to grease with olive oil spray first then
place 1/4 cups of the mixture into each slot. Flatten to fit. If you don't have a donut pan or whoopie pie
pan you can use a regular baking sheet.

After baking for 10 minutes at 350 degrees take them out of the oven, flip them over and bake for another
10 minutes.

To make them into donuts I used a bottle cap to pierce the wholes. Making the holes is optional. They
work as donut cookies too!

Microwave chocolate chips until melted and quickly spread 1 Tsp on each donut.
Top with  sprinkles and let the chocolate harden before stacking

You could also add raisins, nuts or other healthy additives to change it up.

The recipe will make exactly 6 donuts.

Stacking them, putting them in a clear bag and tying with a ribbon would make the perfect office or classroom gift. This is also perfect for early morning tailgating. If you frost with with your football team colors and offer them at tailgate people will be very impressed! Maybe I'll do that for this Saturday's Iowa Hawkeye game! Black and Gold baby!

10 Surefire Ways To Land A Hot Homecoming Date

10 Surefire Ways To Land A Hot Homecoming Date
By: Elizabeth Mitchell

You’ve picked out the perfect dress, chosen the right jewelry and know exactly how you want to wear your hair and do your makeup for Homecoming. Now, the only thing left to do is score a hot date for the dance! Trust us, it’s not as hard as it sounds. Try any one of these 10 tips, and you’ll be well on your way to landing the partner of your dreams (or, you know, just a really rad date!).

1. Drop Subtle Hints

If you and your crush are already good friends, it’ll be fairly simple to find casual ways to bring up the dance around him. Ask him if he’s excited for the big night, or perhaps, if he’s thought about who he might ask yet. More than likely, he’ll get the hint. And if not, well, refer to number 2.

2. Let Him Know You’re Available

Let’s face it: guys aren’t exactly great mind readers, especially when it comes to reading our minds. Even when we do drop subtle hints and talk about the dance with them, sometimes they still need that extra assurance just to work up the nerve to ask us. So do your crush a solid, and let him know you’re available, straight up. Chances are, he’ll be stoked you finally said something!

3. Look Your Best At School

Hoping to catch the eye of that cute guy in Chem class? It definitely doesn’t hurt to put a little extra effort into your morning routine (we’re talking hair, makeup and clothes). Remember: when you look your best, you also feel your best and that confidence alone will make you stand out from the crowd.

4. Bake Him Something Sweet

We all know that the quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! LA-based pastry chef and author Chrysta Wilson says this is especially true for teenage boys. “To snag a Homecoming date, make homemade chocolate chip cookies and give them to the guy you’re ‘sweet’ on. It’s a great way to let him know who you are and that you like him enough to bake for him. This might be enough of a push for him to ask you out. Or, if you’re bold enough,” she suggests, “put a note with them too and ask him to be your date!”

5. Be A Total Flirt

No harm done in a little flirting! Take the time to compliment your crush, boost his ego a bit and show you’re genuinely interested in him by flashing him the occasional sweet smile. Don’t overdo it and throw yourself on him, but let your verbal and nonverbal cues speak for themselves instead.

6. Go With Your Best Guy Friend

Both dateless? Then why not go with each other? You’ll avoid the awkwardness of having to spend an evening with a guy you barely know. Plus, if you want to dance with other people, your date definitely won’t mind (and vice versa). Really, it’s a win-win for all.

7. Get Involved

Whether it’s joining a new club, volunteering your time after school or making an effort to attend sporting events with friends, the more you get out there the more likely you are to get noticed, make some cool connections and thus, get asked to the dance. Seriously, it’s as easy as that.

8. Write Him A Cute Note

If you’re feeling really ballsy and are comfortable enough with the guy, take things back old school and slip him a “Will you go to the dance with me? Check yes or no” note. You can put it in his locker, or if you have a class together, just pass it to him. Make sure it doesn’t wind up in the wrong hands though, or worse, get intercepted by your teacher. Eek, talk about embarrassing!

9. Ask A Guy From A Different School

No one in your grade that really interests you at the moment? If school policy allows it, venture outside your social circle, and ask a guy you know from a different school. It’s a fun way to mix things up, and you never know, he might just invite you to his dance too.

10. Plan A Date With Your Girls

If all else fails, round up all your single ladies and hit the dance together! Rent a luxurious stretch limo, splurge on a fabulous pre-party dinner, shake your booties to the music and take tons of photos to remember the night by. Then finish the evening off with a sleepover and movies!

Get Prepped For The Homecoming Dance With Hair That Turns Heads!

By: Elizabeth Mitchell

Homecoming is right around the corner, and whether you’ve snagged the perfect dress or not, it’s never too early to start thinking about hair. From edgy to all out princess, check out the looks we’ve rounded up every style and personality!

Have a cute dress with a bit of edge? Celebrity hairstylist Angelo David of Angelo David Salon recommends this rad, rock and roll ‘do, which looks ridiculously awesome (particularly on girls with short, razor edge layers!).

Step 1: Prep freshly washed hair for styling using the Angelo David Premier Volume Spray.

Step 2: Divide hair into the desired deep part, and blow-dry section by section using a large, round brush.

Step 3: To create a drastic, side swept bang, take the front section of hair and sweep it away from your part.

Step 4: Apply Redken Maneuver Working Wax to random sections of hair to give it that “piece-y” appearance.

Step 5: Finish off your style with L’Oreal Tex Infinium Professional Hairspray for a strong hold sans the stiffness.

Balance out the glam of your short dress with an undone, boho fishtail braid a la Blake Lively! Hairstylist to the stars Jorge Luis of Prive Salon shows us how.

Step 1: Apply Prive Root Amplifier to damp hair.

Step 2: If you have curly hair, use a round brush to blow-dry. If you have straight hair, just use your fingers.

Step 3: Once your hair is completely dry, pull it over to one side and section it into two sections (making sure to leave out any fringe). Spray on a light texturizing spray.

Step 4: Now, create a messy, undone fishtail braid, and tie off the end with a clear elastic hair tie. Pull out random strands here and there to “rough up” the look a bit.

Pair a vintage-inspired strapless dress with curls that are sure to sparkle just as much! Okay, maybe not as much, but you get our point. Here’s the how-to courtesy of Redken stylist and salon owner Mary Chan.

Step 1: Depending on the length of your hair, use a ½” to 1” curling iron. Take small sections of hair, and wrap them around the curling iron, starting at the top and going down to the bottom.

Step 2: Continue to curl your whole head, making sure it’s wavy from roots to ends.

Step 3: Spray with Redken Forceful Finishing Spray, and you’re ready to roll (pun intended!).

PRETTY PRINCESS

Channel your inner Kate Middleton in a gorgeous ball gown with a half updo and loose waves fit for a princess. Angelo David explains just how.

Step 1: Prepare washed hair for styling using the Angelo David Premier Volume Spray.

Step 2: Begin blow-drying hair in sections using a round brush.

Step 3: To give locks extra volume, roll each section with hot rollers and tease the crown for lift.

Step 4: Slightly run your fingers behind your neck to break up sections and create a softness.

Step 5: Put your hair in a half up, half down ‘do, and complete the look with a spritz of Redken Shine Flash 02 for hold and shine.
